Ensuring patient warming for Sunderland patients

Central Medical Supplies (CMS) has been chosen to supply City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust with a range of different warming products, which it distributes exclusively in the UK for The 37° Company.

City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust will be the first Trust in the UK to use the new Fluido Compact blood and fluid warmer, which was launched in the UK earlier this year.  Fluido Compact is an easy to use, accurate, safe and cost effective system for daily blood and fluid warming. The unit rapidly warms fluids to the target temperature. As it requires no maintenance, Fluido Compact is also a cost-effective system.

Stephen Picken, resource manager at City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust explains why the Trust chose Fluido Compact: “During our trials, Fluido Compact was shown to be preferable to other systems. It was easy to use, straightforward and we found it gave excellent clinical outcomes at no additional cost over our previous system.”

CMS is also supplying the Fluido AirGuard System to City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. The System warms blood and fluids quickly, safely and easily by using infrared technology. As it is a dry method, it eliminates the threat of contamination, which can result when using water based systems. The system is suitable for all applications – from standard anaesthesia to high flow trauma.

City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust has also purchased The 37° Company’s Mistral Air System from CMS. Mistral Air is a ‘forced air warming’ system consisting of an electrical blower, which provides warmed air via a flexible hose to a permeable blanket draped over or under a patient. The warming blanket then distributes warm air to the patient safely and effectively to maintain normothermia. There are a wide range of blankets available making it suitable for all types of surgery. The Trust has found the Mistral Air System to offer both cost savings and better clinical outcomes.
